The 2-Minute Facial That Actually Works

I should start this out by saying that I am a bit of a mask junkie. From sheet to clay to those oh-so-satisfying peel off formulas, I’ve tried more masks than I can count. I’ve been known to whip up a concoction of ingredients from my fridge, slather it on my face, cross my fingers and hope for the best. These days, I’m paying more attention to ingredients and making sure that what I’m putting on my face is actually good for it. Two points for adulting!

When the petite tube of Kate Sommerville’s ExfoliKate entered the Beautycon HQ offices, it instantly earned a coveted spot in my vanity cabinet. Their tagline of “Hollywood’s 2-minute facial” is no exaggeration; this baby packs a punch. The formula combines chemical and tactile exfoliators that get to work the second they hit your skin. It’s full of fruit-based lactic acids (also known as Alpha Hydroxy Acids) that act as non-abrasive exfoliators to improve the skin’s texture. ExfoliKate also boasts an impressive list of skin-friendly vitamins and natural ingredients like papaya, pineapple, pumpkin, aloe vera and honey.

Unlike most masks, a little goes a very long way. Use a pea sized amount to apply a thin layer and massage in circles for 30 seconds. Leave on for 1-2 minutes, depending on your skin’s sensitivity level, and rinse with warm water. Your skin may flush or tingle (mine definitely does), but that’s completely normal. With semi-intense sensations, I feel like the ingredients are doing their job- or maybe I am just a glutton for punishment. I’d also like to point out that it’s green-ish tint allows me to feel like I’m making healthy choices. Just like a green juice, right?

After rinsing, my skin felt baby soft and the little dry spots had been been exfoliated away. To be completely honest, this is one of the few products that gives me that post-facial glow I’m always searching for. For a deeper exfoliation, you can use it in the shower. The steam will activate the enzymes and you’ll save a little time in your morning. Win win!

Fun fact: ExfoliKate is a part of our Winter Beautycon Box. The travel size retails for $24, but our box is $29 and includes 11 other rad products. Sign up here.
