While to the outside world it may seem like we curlies spend endless time pampering and styling our hair, the opposite is true for many women. As much as we would love to give our hair our all, life gets in the way. But no matter how stressed, every woman knows the feeling of wanting to look her best.
That’s where your signature style comes in. It’s the hairstyle that you know like the back of your hand and can recreate no matter where you are or how much time you have. If you are anywhere between the 3c to 4 range, then you already know about the pony pouf. But here are a few tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your fall back style while reserving the right to remain a diva.
The Everlasting Pony Pouf
- If you plan to rock a pony pouf for a long period of time, then you need to ensure that your edges do not suffer for it. To prevent thinning of your edges, separate the front section of your hair from ear to ear approximately ½ an inch wide. Then split that section into two equal pieces. You can either flat twist or cornrow those sections starting from the center of your head going down towards your ears. By doing this you will lessen the tension on your edges caused by pulling your hair back and reduce manipulation as the flat twists or cornrows can be kept in, even when redoing the ponypuff.
- If you do not know how to flat twist or cornrow, then part the front of your hair into smaller sections and two strand twist them in the direction of your puff — i.e towards the back of your head. To style simply, pull the twists back into your pony puff as if they were loose strands of hair. When your style is complete, gently pull the twists forward to release the tension.
- To revive an old pony pouf, gather your hair into a ponytail then place a banana clip horizontally around your ponytail. Release your hair from the ponytail and using a product for hold, two strand twist all of your loose hair.
- Then, take each twist and loosely wrap it and bobby pin it to your head. Ensure that no scalp peeks through and that the banana clip is hidden. To finish the style wear a decorative headband or flower accessory.
To give your style more interest, try varying the size of your twists from small and medium to large. And, there you have it functional and fabulous.
