I had the distinct pleasure of meeting the beautiful Jane Carter of Jane Carter Solution at her booth at this year’s Bronner Bros International Hair Show. Her products are cult favorites in the natural hair care community and for good reason! Ms. Carter used her 20 years of experience with hair of all textures (she still runs and operates a successful salon in South Orange, NJ”> to create an extensive line of hair care products to suit the needs all of hair types. Through the use of pure organic essential oils, natural butters, vitamins, plant extracts and other natural ingredients, Jane Carter Solution provides quality products that cleanse, condition and nourish hair in various forms: coily, curly hair, straight, relaxed, color treated and locked.

What really impressed me when speaking with Ms. Carter was the great passion she demonstrated for not just the way hair looks, but its health as well. She has developed a brand that not only provides products, but also educates her clients and customers so that the care and maintenance of the hair is paramount and thus provides an experience that extends far beyond hair care products. To that effect, she has long been a fan and supporter of Texture Media, Inc. and NaturallyCurly.com and spoke very highly of its co-founder, Michelle Breyer.

It’s amazing to see just as many hairpieces that reflect natural hair of all textures. There was even a booth dedicated to weaves specifically for natural curly hair. So many well-known brands are branching out to incorporate lines that meet the needs of curly girls. Bronner Bros alone has developed three different lines for the naturally curly hair community!

Other than the abundance of curly textures, the biggest trend at the Bronner Bros Hair Show this year was color! Whether it was coily, curly or somewhere in between, up ‘do’s, braids, loc’s or wash and gos, the hair you were born with or the hair you bought, multi-faceted browns, vivid reds and bright blondes abounded.

We all know that as curly girls, our hair structure lends to losing moisture a lot easier than our straight haired sisters. Adding hair color can change not only the texture of your hair, but can also damage it if not utilized properly. Renowned hair stylist and curly hair specialist Deshonica Kerrie recommends using semi or demi permanent colors if possible or going to a professional for high lift color.

Bronner Bros International Hair Show Recap

Prior to last weekend, my only familiarity with the Bronner Bros International Hair Show was what I saw in Chris Rock’s documentary “Good Hair.” Subsequently, I expected nothing but weave, over the top drama and a display of styles not exactly suited for everyday wear for the average woman. I had no idea what a natural like me would find of use in such an environment.

There were also demonstrations of the latest weaving techniques, the newest hot tool innovations and the next big thing in hair color, as well as row after row of booths featuring products from old and new brands alike. What really stood out, however, was the emphasis on education (for both hair care professionals and consumers”>, the importance of maintaining the health of your hair and the overwhelming evidence of the impact and influence of the natural hair movement on the hair industry as a whole.
