Beth’s usual curly look.
I was headed towards dirty dread town (not that there is anything wrong with that”> but still, pitied the stylist who had to put me back together.
Lucky for me, the delightful hair color guru from Hollywood Celebrity land—Kim Vo—has a salon in the Mirage.
I made an appointment for an overhaul on nails, makeup and a hair style and it was surprisingly affordable.

Beth’s Kim Vo-straightened look.
My hairdresser at Kim Vo worked some kind of magic on me using Keratase products, one being the Masquintense deep conditioner and all of the Oleo Relax products which seemed to work well, although I can’t get this same affect at home for whatever reason.
Kim Vo’s staff is delightful, and although I did not get to meet the man himself, he was on site that weekend. He is apparently very hands-on despite his high profile. His employees seem to really adore him and love their jobs. They took a lot of time with me and invited me back later in the day for touch ups.
I’m pretty certain I have never looked better than I did that day, makeup wise, although it was an alternative version of me in the hair department.
What I like most about straight-hair blow outs is when the curl starts to return (5 minutes later”>, because it’s a different looser kind of curl that I love, too. My hair stayed wonderful for several days with just a quick run-over with a big curling iron and Kerastase anti-frizz serum. I like these products but I don’t see a difference really in them relaxing my curl at home. I think that’s the art of the blow dry, although I do appreciate and sometimes miss the texture that came from my Kim Vo experience. I recommend trying them out when in Vegas.
Beth is a marketing maven in Austin, Texas. She popped into the NaturallyCurly offices one day, told us about her Kim Vo experience and we just had to have her write about it! Have you had a Kim Vo experience? Tell us about in the comments area below!

Pravana Naturceuticals is a unique hybrid that combines the power of nature with the technological innovation to create a new professional hair care standard. It’s proprietary Naturceutical Complex utilizes nine Meso-American botanicals that nourish and promote hair’s health and wellness and three advanced hydrolyzed proteins to increase strength, elasticity and shine. All products are free of MEA and DEA and meet the strictest environmental regulations.
It’s been a little over two weeks with my Brazilian Blowout, and I’m still liking the differences. I guess I realized how subtle the differences were when I traveled to Los Angeles to meet with a client, and saw someone who had entirely different results.
Over the past two years, this woman and I have compared notes about our tight curly hair. In the course of talking to someone else at this company, they told me the woman also had gotten a Brazilian Blowout.
They brought her in, and I realized I had seen her walking by several times. but didn’t recognize her at all. Her tight curls were very loose waves. And she says she only air dries her hair to get the effect.
While I really like having my hair more curly, her hair looked gorgeous—sleek and shiny and significantly straighter—something that used to take her two hours to do with a dryer and flat iron. She said some people in her own family don’t recognize her.
It shows the different effects you can get with this kind of treatment, from frizz control to a significantly straighter look.

Celebrity Hairstylist Marcia Hamilton created this stunning look for Jada Pinkett Smith at the 3rd Annual Essence Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon last week.
Create the Braid – Make a part, starting from behind the left ear to the right ear. Then, create a deep right-side part leaving out the lesser hair. Gather the front section of hair and tease the root to create texture and volume. IT&LY Hairfashion Purity Design Pure Texture Volumizing Spray at the root area for hold. Braid the hair on the scalp from right to left all the way to the end.
Make a Pony – Brush the rest of the hair into a high pony above the ears and secure with a holder. Apply H2pro Silk 1 Minute Thermal Hair Treatment on the pony and divide into small sections. Curl into spirals and apply a light shine serum to your hands and separate spirals. Then, spray with a texturizing mist for added texture and a bit of roughness.
Shape the Pony – Take the end of the braid and pin it to the part on the scalp. Then take a bobby pin with the open end, swoop into the curled pony, lift and pin to scalp. This creates a bit of lift and added structure, repeat until you’re happy with the shape. Utilize a light wax spray for shine and texture and finish with White Sands Infinity Finishing Spray for lasting hold.
While updos—tight buns, mostly—were the hair story of last night’s Oscars show, we managed to find plenty of examples of stars willing to show some texture.
Among the most lovely were the face-framing updos worn by Anna Kendrick and Demi Moore, each showcasing gentle waves.
Other textured looks featured long waves, such as those worn by Best Director winner Kathryn Bigelow and by singer Mariah Carey.
Side parts were big, and some actresses, such as Best Actress winner Sandra Bullock, added the tiniest bit of curl at the bottom.
The guys got into the picture, too, with Best Actor winner Jeff Bridges showcasing gorgeous waves and Best Adapted Screenplay winner Geoffrey Fletcher wearing a tidy afro flat-top.

Tourmaline Titanium Steam Straightener
BabylissPro introduces its Tourmaline Titanium Steam Straightener, a straightener that rewrites the rules of styling.
A salon industry web site says, “There has been some huge buzz in the industry about this iron. It really goes a step beyond most any other iron on the market for controlling wild, unruly, and seemingly unmanageable curly hair. It is a brand new era in styling for a total conditioning system that infuses hair with deep moisturizing ionic steam as it straightens. Leaves hair smooth and shiny, and results last 30% longer.”
And the straightener is on sale now at BeautyShoppeBiz.
A total conditioning system that infuses hair with deep moisturizing ionic steam as it straightens! It leaves hair smooth and shiny. This iron has an advanced ceramic heating system for ultra-fast heat-up and recovery, up to 465°F. Meryl Davis and Charlie White wow the Olympic crowd; she with her acrobatics, he with his curly hair.
![charlie white](/images/articles/2010/02/charlie-white-2.jpg)
American ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White skated flawlessly to capture the silver medal at the Vancouver Winter Olympics Monday night. Canadians Tessa Virture and Scott Moir won Canada’s first-ever ice-dancing gold medal in a night that showed North America’s rise in the sport.
Whatever color the medal, we here at NaturallyCurly were just dazzled by White’s golden curls.

Shaun White celebrates his gold medal.
Curly favorite — of the famous flaming red waves — Shaun White literally soared above his competition in the men’s halfpipe event at the Vancouver Olympics yesterday, delivering the U.S. its fifth gold medal in 2010, and sealing the snowboarder’s legacy as one of the most dominant Olympians in history.

Jacobellis had a disappointing outcome in Torino, too, when showboating cost her the gold medal.
Her curls are golden, but her performance was not.
Olympian and curly favorite Lindsey Jacobellis suffered a devastating end to her 2010 bid for gold when she hit a gate yesterday, ending her chances for a medal in the sport of snowboard cross at the Vancouver games.
There was some tight jockeying on the upper part of the course with eventual gold medalist Maelle Ricker of Canada. Jacobellis came off the first jump and landed off balance, desperately trying to regain her line but ending up in contact with the gate, an automatic disqualification.
