Just got home from a late night at the office and need to take your curls from bland to date night sexy in a snap? Not to worry! We found our favorite quick and easy curly hairstyles that will transform your day look and keep his eyes locked on you from dinner to wine on the beach.

Pump Up the Volume

With bouncy, voluminous, sexy curls!

Volume is an easy way to pump up the sex appeal! The only challenge here is warding off gravity and stopping it from pulling your curls down. Sound impossible? It’s not!

  1. Volume starts in the shower! Apply your gel or mousse in the shower with sopping wet hair and your head upside down. Scrunch in an upward motion toward your head to increase the curl and volume; you can never scrunch too much. This not only keeps moisture in, but also adds height to the crown area.
  2. Scrunch while you are still upside down with a microfiber towel. Diffusing will give you the most volume for type 2 and 3 given that air-drying will take a while, and the weight of your hair will cause loss of volume.
  3. Wavy (Type 2″>: Use a hard holding gel or volumous mousse to give you hold all night. Take pin-curl clips and clip at the root of your hair on the top of your head to give you lift while drying. Be careful not to disturb your curl pattern. Pile your hair on top of your head and secure with a clip or two while drying to create lots of lift.
  4. Curly (Type 3″>: By using a light gel and frizz free oil cocktailed together, you can achieve volume without frizz. Use pin-curl clips on the crown of your head to create volume and lift.
  5. Kinky (Type 4″>: Most kinky curly hair already has volume and lift, but you need to have it without frizz. Leave some of your conditioner in your hair and lightly rinse to keep the frizz out. Then apply a soft styling cream and frizz free oil together to lock the moisture in. Air-drying is best so you will not agitate the curls.

Bump It!

This is not Snooki’s bump, either!

Now I’m not talking about a Snooki bump, just a mild bump on your crown. These are super easy to create and give you the illusion of volume without the shower and setting time period.

  1. Grab a section of hair from your hairline at your forehead and pull it back much like you would pull your hair back to create a ponytail, only use less hair. Then, ever so slightly push your hair forward to create a mini-bump. You can choose to leave a few stray curls out around your face, or to pull it all back.
  2. Bobby pins are your best friend, so don’t be afraid to use them. The key is to lock them in place by making an X.  Always make sure you do not disturb your curl pattern when you pin them.
  3. Wavy (Type 2″>: If you have fine hair, you may need to lightly tease the top section of your hair to hold your style so your hair won’t split during the night. Simply tease close to the scalp, but not all the way through or you’ll disturb your curls and create frizz. Spray a hard hold aerosol hair spray before and after you tease. Then, pin your hair back one side at a time making sure that it feels secure before moving on.
  4. Curly (Type 3″>: To change up your bump look, criss-cross your hair in the back giving it a slightly braided look, then pin in place. This will also help create the lift you need for the style. Make sure to spray with a spritz hair spray throughout to hold your curl and reduce frizz.
  5. Kinky (Type 4″>: Smooth with a strong frizz free oil on the top half of your hair as you are pinning back to keep the frizz at bay. Pin hair back one side at a time and smooth with each pin. If your hair is extremely thick, you may need to use a lot of bobby pins to hold your hair in place. Be creative and put them all going the same direction or try a fun design.

Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize

Make your ‘do fun & flirty

When you’re in a time crunch, accessories can be your best friend! Spice your ‘do up with a cute bow or flower, giving it a “I spent a lot of time on this” look!  There is such a huge selection of hair jewelry on the market right now, so you have no excuse to not find something that fits your personal style!

  1. If the accessory is too heavy for your hair, use a couple bobby pins first to position the hair where you want it and then place the clip on top of it.
  2. Only put accessories in on dry, set hair. Doing otherwise can and will cause frizz, and will lessen the ability of the bobby pins to hold the accessory in place. This means more touching, which equals more frizz. Don’t do it!
  3. Wavy (Type 2″>: A great scarf tied around your hairline will dramatize your look. Do not choose one that is too long, but one that is just a little bit longer than your hair length, and keep it simple. This is perfect for second-day hair fails, since the scarf will cover up any oil build-up at your roots.
  4. Curly (Type 3″>: A bow or a clip will show off your amazing curls. Clip one side of your hair up and place it there. You might need to pin the side up with some bobby pins if the clip is too heavy for your hair.
  5. Kinky (Type 4″>: Perfectly a placing a decorated headband in your hair will compliment your outfit. You can leave a few tendrils out around your face, too. Do not mess with the headband too much during the night, though, as it will disrupt your curls if you do.

Oscars 2011: How to Get the Red Carpet Look for Your Hair

Rock these hairstyles like the superstar you are!

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson with a sexy bob

Scarlett Johansson’s a-line bob was accentuated tonight with sexy, messy curls. Use a hair spray as a setting spray before you use an 1″ iron to wrap the hair around, but leave the ends out to create an imperfect curl. Then flip upside down, and with pomade in your hands, mess up the curls to give it that vixen look. The idea is loose and messy, so don’t go for perfect.

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson looked gorgeous with her posh updo

Jennifer Hudson looked svelte tonight in her Versace gown and curled pompadour. This posh updo was created by using curled hair, or hair extensions, then setting them in place with bobby pins on top of the head to create more volume. Do not brush the hair out—instead use pin curls, which is pinning a set curl—this way you don’t lose the curl pattern or shape. Spraying hair spray throughout each pin will guarantee your style will stay in place all night.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway wore her hair in a low chignon on the red carpet

Anne Hathaway’s red carpet low chignon was perfect with her Valentino dress. Curl all your hair with a 1 1/2″ iron all over, then smooth the hair down on top, and pin back with bobby pins into a knot-like style, making it low on the nape. Make sure to leave a few face-framing pieces out so it doesn’t look too slicked back. This style is versatile and can be made more tight to get more elegance or can be looser to create a more natural look.

Amy Adams

Amy Adams wore faux finger waves at the 2011 Academy Awards

Amy Adams, Best Supporting Actress nominee for her role in “The Fighter,” wore glamorous faux finger waves that are very simple to recreate and will stay all night. This is easily achieved with a 2″ iron, then brush out with a paddle brush to create a set curl. Form the wave pattern you want with your fingers and your brush—don’t brush too hard—just enough to mold the wave you want. Spraying a hair spray at the end to set the look will ensure your startlet look.

SAG Awards: And the best hair goes to… Melissa Leo!

Veteran stylist Anna Craig of Trashy Root Salon & Spa offers a recap of the award show and a rundown of the hair:

The 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were handed out Sunday night in Los Angeles. As one of the industry’s premiere events, it offered the usual glitz and glam.

Big, long, elegant dresses, tasteful jewelry, and toned-down hair were the theme of the show. Curls were definitely not in force at tonight’s show; the big trend was blown out, slicked back and straight ponytails.

Angie Harmon

Angie Harmon, from Rizzoli and Isles, not only had on one ungodly dress but, again, she had a slicked-back ponytail. She had probably the worst look of the night. What happened to her amazing wavy hair?

Melissa Leo

The big winner of the night, Melissa Leo, star of “The Fighter,” styled her hair with a sexy, loose curly updo. She kept true to her natural curls by diffusing her curls then loosely pinning them back, leaving a few out in the front to frame the face.

Julianna Margulies

Oh, Julianna Margulies, from “The Good Wife,” you disappoint me so. Where have your curls gone lately? She had her hair blown-out straight and then slicked down in a ponytail; this was by far my least favorite look for one of the best curlies out there.

Kyra Sedgwick

Kyra Sedgwick, from The Closer, had some curlies going on last night. Her hair looked sophisticated and fun at the same time. Her curly hair was diffused and lightly sun kissed with blond highlights.

<Jane Krakowski

With baby bumps everywhere this season, Jane Krakowski, from 30 Rock, was definitely rocking her bump with her controlled curls. Jane’s curly q’s were put into waves tonight to make her one hot mama. Her hair was blown out, but her volume was kept and then looser curls were styled going away from her face to create her sexy wave.

<Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis, of Black Swan, kept her wavy hair down and wavy, with just a hint of caramel color popping with balayaged highlights. Mila’s simple style can be recreated by taking a 2” barrel iron and lightly wrapping your hair around it to create her wavy look.

Helena Bonham Carter

Where do I even start with Helena Bonham Carter, of “The King’s Speech.” She had a crazy updo that should have stayed in the ’90s where it originated. This too-curly updo with side swung curls was perfect for her quirky personality, but too over the top for anyone else.

Christina Hendricks

Christina Hendricks, from “Mad Men,” likes to represent for the curly girl. Her hair was blown out to sophistication and had such a pin-up vibe, then curled with a 1” iron to set it in place for that old-fashioned starlet look.

2010 Tony Awards: To Curl or Not to Curl?

That is indeed the question, and many stars on the red carpet of the 2010 Tony Awards decided to answer that question by embracing their inner “curly-ness” and straying away from the societal “Hollywood” pressures of wearing straight hair.  The awards were held at Radio City Music Hall in New York and aired on Sunday, June 13.

Bernadette Peters

Two-time Tony award winner Bernadette Peters looked stunning in a copper-toned gown with a head full of long, fiery-red curls.

Jonathan Groff

‘Glee’ star, Jonathan Groff (or Jessie St. James to all of the “Gleeks” out there”> looked handsome on the red carpet in a black tuxedo and loose, light blond curls.

Matthew Morrison

Matthew Morrison or Mr. Schuester our favorite Glee club coach, also looked quite attractive in a classic black tuxedo and his trademark brunette curls.

Laura Bell Bundy

Singer and Broadway actress, Laura Bell Bundy looked amazing in a floor-length silver and gold gown and big blond barrel curls to match.

Karen Olivo

Karen Olivo, Tony-award winner and television actress, wore her long, gorgeous brunette hair down with a slight beach wave at the bottom. This is a perfect match for her long, flowing creamed colored gown.

Karine Plantadit

Cameroonian-born dancer and actress Karine Plantadit may not be a household name but she definitely deserves curl praise. She frequently wears her hair in a tight-coiled, light brown curly afro and this award ceremony was no different. She looks amazing in a loose fitting black gown while showing off some of her elegant dance moves on the red carpet.
