When I get an invitation to a wedding there are typically 3 things that run through my head:
“How exciting! I knew (or never thought”> they would get married!”
“What am I going to wear?”
“How am I going to do my hair?”
We have put together a list of five ways to get a great hairstyle for the wedding you are attending so you don’t have to fret when trying to decide on the perfect style.
- Use Curlformers for a different curl pattern: If you haven’t used Curlformers already, a wedding is a great event to test them out. It can give you a curl pattern that you don’t have naturally without damaging your hair in any sort of way. Curlformers are so easy to use and just as quick that you won’t feel like you are taking too long to get ready for an event that is not your own. They are also great because you can use the four following styles along with your Curlformers.
- Spice up your ‘do with some accessories: Accessories are great for adding life to a simple hairstyle. Accessories from places like Forever 21 or Claire’s will add a new dimension to your style. If you want to incorporate the wedding colors or style and don’t have the outfit to do so, get a hair accessory that can do that for you. You can also take things a more natural route and get some flowers that will match the wedding. Outdoor weddings give you an opportunity to fit in with the surroundings while also making a statement with your hair.
- Goody Spin Pins: The new collection of Simple Styles from Goody makes it easy to get a style that is still formal and festive, without having to do much. The Spin Pin is great because it can give you a polished and refined bun or it can give you a more loose and natural bun with a few curls hanging out. It’s a great way to create a style that will match the tone of the wedding you are attending.
- Braids, braids, braids: When I think of braids I think of being a little girl and my mom French braiding my hair while I sat and complained about it. Thankfully, braids have come a long way, and they are an excellent way to add some flair to your hair. A braid in the front that tucks behind your hair will add a sophisticated look without losing the fun factor. Several smaller braids will also add a formal look to a hairstyle. Braids are becoming more and more popular for special events.
- The soft and loose look: Even though it is a wedding, we don’t always want to have to wear our hair prim and proper, and we shouldn’t have to! Softer looks like a half up, half down that has a few pieces hanging down is a great option for a soft look. Any style that frames your face is going to make you have a softer look. A loose bun or up ‘do is good because it puts you at a step above of just having your hair down without having to go all the way to formal.
Wedding styles are difficult for some people because we always get told to never be too bold for fear of overpowering the bride. But we still want to look good for personal satisfaction and because you never know when single groomsmen may look your way.
When preparing for a wedding, all brides hear “Something will go wrong, but it will all be fine in the end.” While something does typically come off not according to plan, it does not have to be your hair. Everyone obviously wants to be the best they can be on their wedding day, so every bride needs to be prepared to deal with any hair crisis that might come her way.
You’re getting married outside and the weather changes:
The weather can change at any time, and every bride getting married outside needs to be prepared. If there is a slight chance of rain, or even wind, you need to have products by your side that will help you out of the could-be disaster. Some curly hair does much better when there is a chance of rain because of the humidity, but be prepared with your favorite frizz-fighting product. With that said, make sure you test what products you think might work best a few weeks in advance. Give yourself plenty of time to read reviews on products and see what makes your hair look the greatest. Testing these products in advance also raises the chance that you will go through a few different weather days before the big day arrives.
Your hair color isn’t right. Now what?
First of all, don’t panic. Stress is already at an all-time high close to your wedding and going crazy over your hair color is not going to help. If it is something simple like the highlights are too chunky there is no need to color it again. Coloring so close together can be completely traumatic for your hair and it is not worth the fuss. Not to mention, it probably looks much better than you give yourself credit for. If the color mishap is something like you are a brunette and you ended up blond, call another salon and go in for a consultation. Many good salons can give you great advice on how to change the color without having to completely re-color and damaging your hair further. Do not make any drastic decisions without having a consultation. This is also a helpful reminder to not leave anything big, like changing your hair color, to the last minute. Do it at least a week in advance, if not more, so you have time to make any changes necessary.
You picture one hairstyle and got another
Most brides, if not all of them, go through dozens of hairstyles to find one they think will look best. Most of the time you do not have the same type of hair that the model in the picture does so it makes it difficult for the exact hairstyle to be pulled off. It is extremely important that you meet with whoever is doing your hair before the big day arrives so you know what you are getting. If you still come out with a not so picture-perfect look, find an easy way to spice it up without doing it all over again. Add an accessory that enhances the look and also takes away focus from the hair ‘do itself. Most brides do not have the time to start from scratch so avoid that unless you absolutely hate your hair. Most of the time the stress has built up so much that one little thing makes you bubble over. Take a deep breath and actually look at your hair. Instead of seeing that it is different, pay attention to if you like it and if it looks good with your veil. If everyone else says it’s gorgeous, it most likely is, so embrace it and start your wedding!

I started working with NaturallyCurly almost a month ago and I have learned a lot about the curly world. One thing I have noticed during my journey is that there are not very many blogs that deal with wavy hair! Considering I myself am a wavy, I thought this should be fixed. So here I am starting a wavy blog for everyone to enjoy and hopefully get some great tips from. Along with comments in general, I would love to hear any suggestions you have for future topics. As for this first blog I wanted to make it more of an introduction to my hair and myself.
AG Re:Coil Curl Activating Balm
I have always had naturally wavy hair but when I went in to my first year of high school I really started to embrace it. I used to hate it when I was younger because it would not dry straight, or curly, like all of my other friends’ hair would. It would irritate me that I could not be one or the other; I was just an in-between! As I started realizing that there were products made just for my hair type, I began experimenting and decided I loved everything about my waves! Yes, I do still have bad hair days, but on those days I just go with the flow and pull my hair in a wavy ponytail.
Working at NaturallyCurly has been great for my waves. I have been able to try numerous products that I have never even heard of. I tend to create a new “wavy regimen” once a week. Right now, however, I feel like I can’t live without the KMS Sea Salt Spray, the AG Re:Coil Curl Activating Balm, duckbill clips, and of course my diffuser. The KMS works great for me right out of the shower. I always use my duckbill clips, one on each side of my part and one in the back, to lift my hair off of the crown of my head, before I do anything else. I spray my hair with the KMS and get on with my morning routine. Once I’m done with everything else I diffuse my hair for about 10 minutes and then I’m done. It’s a simple way to get great natural waves. When I feel like doing a little less, even though my morning routine isn’t much, I shower at night and turn to my AG. I pat the water out of my hair, apply about a 50-cent piece amount of AG to my hair, and get to bed. When I get up in the morning I have great-looking waves that last me all day.
KMS Sea Salt Spray
I have learned to love my waves and I love trying new products and styles. Embracing your natural look is great but I also love having different options. My goal for this monthly blog is to give you different products that will enhance your waves, suggest different styles, different treatments that you might want to try, and dish on other wavy news.
Like I said, feel free to suggest different topics or products you would like to know about or even see me try. Wave on.
Wedding season is just around the corner with the official start of summer. Trendy looks change from season to season, and this year is no exception.
Down ‘dos, hair accessories, and softer updos seem to be the trend this season that every bride needs to make her look a complete showstopper. Curls and waves are still as popular as ever so never be afraid to keep your hair in its natural state on your wedding day.
Already walked down the aisle? Upload your wedding look here. Looking for more wedding hair ideas? Check here.
In the past, sleek updos have been the “go to” bridal look. This season, however, sleek updos are a look of the past. Down ‘dos and softer styles are far more popular. Romantic waves and luscious curls are still a must-have for many brides. If that is a look you want to go for on your wedding day, leave your hair down after curling it and add an accessory to finish your look. If you want an up ‘do on your special day, consider a softer look. A loose side bun or ponytail are great ways to still get your hair away from your face while having a glamorous look.
Whether wearing your hair in a soft up ‘do or down on your wedding day, hair accessories are becoming very popular for brides. Flower and decorative combs are easy and affordable ways to dress up every hairstyle and get a great end result. Flowers are a great touch to an up or down ‘do. You can get a real one that will match your flowers or just a simple white or ivory one to match your dress. Flowers go great for brides who are having an outdoor wedding and want to match the setting. They are also great for any bride who does not want to wear a veil but still wants something in her hair to tie her final look together. Look for flowers that are big enough to make a statement but not so big that they will take away from any other aspect of your wedding day look.
Decorative combs and clips are also something to look at adding to the mix when deciding on a hairstyle. They can instantly add a level of “glam” to your hair that otherwise would not be there. These are great for your wedding day because they can be used for any hairstyle that you decide to do. If you wear your hair down you can add a clip to one side to add a little flair. If half up is more your style a clip or comb can be used to hold your hair in place while also giving it a great sparkle. If you decide to wear your hair all up, combs and clips can be used throughout your hairstyle to achieve a decorative and put-together look. These tools are great to complete your look for the simple reason that they can be used with any style you decide works best.
When brides think of trendy looks for your wedding day hair, most think of styles and accessories like a flower or comb. The biggest accessory that is sometimes forgotten when considering hairstyles is the veil. Most brides see this as part of the wedding dress, but the veil often times completes the bridal look and also has an effect on your hairstyle. This season, the veil of all veils is the birdcage. It is chic and classic look that also photographs well. This veil does not take away anything from a hairstyle or dress, but instead adds a timeless look. With the birdcage veil you can wear an up ‘do or down ‘do and even add a little accessory to get a great finished look.
Between different styles and accessories, this year is no let down on trends. Take advantage of them and add a great look to your wedding day style that you might otherwise be worried about trying.
