A lot of people color treat their hair–I am one of them. As if having curly-wavy hair isn’t enough with figuring out what product combinations work, by altering hair color we are left with additional concerns like dryness. Because I do not like the reddish strawberry blonde shade nature gave me, I lighten my hair to be more of a true blonde. By doing so, a main concern I have is brassiness. If I am not careful, the natural warm tones in my hair will leak through resulting in a not so pretty coppery, brass hue.
Another concern when coloring curls, especially going lighter of course is additional damage to the tresses. I am on a quest to grow my hair really long, so I use products with excellent moisturizing and protein containing ingredients.
5 Products for Blonde Color-Treated Hair
Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Masque
My Holy Grail Mask. It was designed to repair dry, damaged and chemically processed hair. Containing no parabens, silicones or sulfates a little truly goes a long way with this one AND it works equally well with or without additional heat. It contains great ingredients like keratin protein to repair plus argan, sweet almond and avocado oils to help nourish. It also has vitamins B5, D, A, E and biotin which will help increase hair elasticity and moisture to prevent breakage, promotes healthy shine and luster, and replenishes strength. I notice less breakage and shedding when I use this mask consistently, plus the softness and shine of my blonde strands are out of this world. Bonus: It smells like heaven.
Pureology Perfect 4 Platinum Miracle Filler Treatment
This is a daily leave-in treatment that helps fill in gaps in the hair’s cuticles that color processing leaves behind. It is not heavy enough for me to use as a sole leave in, but I always spray it on wet hair after leaving in regular conditioner for the reparative properties. It contains chamomile and lemon to keep blondes bright. I also spray a little a few days a week on dry hair, focusing on my ends. It leaves the hair soft, helps with tangles and keeps the hair strong. The spray bottle lasts forever even with constant use which is another plus. This is a must try for any blondes out there!
Clairol Shimmer Lights Purple Conditioner
If you are blonde I am sure you have heard how important it is to use purple shampoo or conditioner. Purple is opposite the color wheel of blonde (err yellow”> so it helps to counteract and cancel out any brassiness. I have tried a boat load of various purple shampoos and conditioners and this is my very favorite. I can’t use this conditioner alone because it just is not moisturizing enough for me but whatever other deep treatment or conditioner I use, I apply this on top for the last 5 minutes and it works wonders! This is the most deep, intense purple color of the purple conditioners I have found. Make sure not to leave this on too long though: when I first started using it I was leaving it on almost a half hour and well, I wound up with unwanted lavender streaks and an unhappy hair dresser.
Malibu Blondes C Treatment
This is a unique treatment. It comes in a powder form and you use it after shampoo, but before conditioner and leave it on your hair 5 minutes. It contains vitamin C to help purify the hair, betaine to help improves hair’s texture and softness and Panthenol (Vitamin B5″> to help improve moisture retention. This is an additional shower step but it is worth it. I usually will use it once a week or every other week and when I do I have additional shine and my hair overall just feels so healthy. It is a vegan formula containing no preservatives, parabens, propylene glycol, salts, DEA, gluten and fragrance.
Ouidad Color Sense Color Preserving Shampoo and Conditioner
This shampoo and conditioner was specifically formulated for color treated curls! Yay! Both products contain ingredients such as Beta-Carotene and Lycopene which will help block UV rays from causing hair color to fade. They also contain anti-oxidants to help fight any environmental aggressors which will wreck havoc on your color too. I really like that the shampoo is sulfate free. So many shampoos for color treated hair contain sulfates and it drives me crazy! This line nourishes the hair while keeping it silky and keeping hair color vibrant.
