Summer is here, and for most wavies out there, it should be a time of great summer hair that doesn’t take much prep before hitting the town. After all, we love the look of beachy waves and when we naturally have them, many consider us blessed. However, some of us have wavy hair, but yet we have a few strands that are straight. Often we need to deal with frizz or the look just doesn’t look as “beachy” as we would like.
The good news is that there are a few little tricks that we can pull out of our sleeves that don’t take much effort and will spice up our waves. No longer do we have to deal with the few straight strands that really shouldn’t be there, or the frizz that just makes us look like we don’t care.
My summertime regimen is to wash and condition as normal with Redken Color Extend Shampoo and Conditioner. Then I apply mousse while scrunching up the waves. On days when I’m in a hurry, I will blow dry with a diffuser after applying heat protection spray. Most often, though, I just let it air dry. As you can see, this is not much different than everyone else.
Once my waves are dry; I will finger comb and fluff it a little — only a little because I do have the tendency to frizz out easily. Even though I have scrunched and moussed, I still find a few straight strands and they simply drive me nuts! This is where my Yogi Wand is useful. Within a few seconds, those strands are falling in line with the rest.
Perhaps my most beloved summertime product is Agadir Argon Oil. Now this oil is no secret, but I’ve found that for beachy summer waves, this is a must have. I apply only a tiny amount underneath my hair first, very lightly of course, before moving to the top layer. The shine and smoothness of my waves really impressed me the first time I used it. In fact, I don’t think I can ever go without it again.
Depending on where I’m going, I may apply some light hairspray, but more often than not, I just let the waves fall. Yes, we wavies are very blessed to have some truly versatile hair. We can straighten it if we ever wanted to, or curl it up a lot. One thing that we can all agree on, however, is that we wouldn’t change it for the world.
What’s your summertime routine?
