Hairstyles for Every Age
In Your 20s: Be Fearless
We chatted with celebrity hairstylist Moulay Yacoubi of New York City’s Pierre Michel Salon to find the perfect hairstyle for everyone, whether you’ve just graduated college or just met your first grandchild.
If you’re a twenty something, it’s the perfect time to take a risk. “Experiment with all kinds of looks,” says Yacoubi. “Go for a short pixie style, like Miley Cyrus or Rihanna—after consulting with your stylist, of course.” If you want to keep your hair long, Yacoubi suggests traying a side swept low pony or braided look for spring.
In Your 30s: Effortless Elegance
When you’re hitting your stride in your 30s, Yacoubi suggests trying a sexy angular or wavy shoulder length bob, like January Jones or Emily Blunt. “Whether you’re in the process of starting a family or focusing on your career, you should pick a hairstyle that fits your life,” says Yacoubi. “These are great options for someone with a busy lifestyle.”
In Your 40s: Try a Longer Look
Just because you’ve hit the big 4-0, doesn’t mean you have to resolve yourself to a short cut. Yacoubi loves Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Aniston’s long understated yet elegant waves.

In Your 50s: Lots of Layers
A modern cut with piece-y layers in the front is the perfect look for when you pass that 50-year milestone. “Steer clear of the spiky pixie style,” says Yacoubi. “It sends the message that you’re trying too hard to look good.”
In Your 60s (and Beyond”>: Soft Highlights
Color is key to ensure that you continue looking fabulous into your golden years. But as for cut, Yacoubi suggests sticking with a chic, layered bob. Dress it up for spring with an elegant chignon or ladylike hair accessory.
