SheaMoisture released a special limited edition collection in Target stores as part of the Made to Matter Community Commerce campaign.
“Community Commerce product sales go to women-led businesses, to support communities that supply ingredients for our products. We help fund training and infrastructure to help them manufacture their own high quality goods in their countries, and get fair prices for their goods and labor. This helps them to earn a better living and support their families, making a better life possible within their communities. It’s not a donation. It’s an investment in a fairer world.” – Target.com
How great is it we can purchase some wonderful SheaMoisture products and help benefit charity at the same time?? The collection includes a line for hair and body. My review will be on the hair products only.
Intense Hydration
This line by SheaMoisture focuses on Intense Hydration. The line features:
- Manuka Honey – contains anti-inflammatory properties that soothe the scalp. Creates a moisturizing barrier.
- Mafura Oil – contains high levels of beneficial oleic acid. Replenishes stripped oils from hair.
- African Rock Fig – contains antioxidant Vitamin C. Keeps hair vibrant in appearance.
As far as smell is concerned, to me the smell is strong and I smell the combination of both the honey and the fig. I don’t mind it, It smells kind of sweet and a tad fruity, but it can be strong.
I notice since using items from this line my curly wave definition has noticeably increased! This was true whether I used all four together or just cocktailed one or two with other lines. This led me to believe now that more hydrated hair = more defined hair. On top of that, I saw a MAJOR increase in shine and my hair overall just felt softer, more manageable and healthier.

What I Say: I usually seal my wet hair with pure Argan Oil but lately I have been sealing with 2 droppers full of this stuff…and I LOVE it!! The shine is adds to my hair in incredible and my hair feels silky. On days 2 or 3 I can use a little bit of this to fight frizz and bring back some shine if any was lost. It doesn’t weigh my hair down or leave it looking greasy. This is my current favorite oil/elixir type product from SheaMoisture now.
SheaMoisture Community Commerce Hydration Intensive Shampoo
What They Say: SheaMoisture’s Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo cleanses while infusing hair with intensive moisture and shine-enhancing nutrients. Certified organic Shea Butter, Honey, Mafura and Baobab Oils are blended into a rich formulation of restorative oils to soften and revitalize hair. Antioxidant –rich African Rock Fig helps boost hydration while protecting distressed hair from environmental influences. Sulfate-free.
What I Say: My hair felt clean and moisturized after using this. This for sure was one of the most hydrating SheaMoisture shampoos I used, and that is impressive because as far as shampoos go, most of the SheaMoisture ones do nourish my hair. I actually was able to do a little detangling with it too. For a shampoo, it was very rich. It had minimal lather which I didn’t mind because it is sulfate free.
SheaMoisture Community Commerce Hydration Intensive Conditioner
What They Say: SheaMoisture’s Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Conditioner instantly softens and detangles while infusing hair with intense moisture and shine-enhancing nutrients. Certified organic Shea Butter, Honey, Mafura and Baobab Oils are blended into a rich formulation of restorative oils to nourish and condition dry, brittle hair. Helps restore manageability. Antioxidant-rich African Rock Fig helps boost hydration while protecting distressed hair from environmental influences. Leaves hair soft, shiny and easy to style.
What I Say: I didn’t actually try this as a conditioner but have been using it as a leave in. My hair loves it!! I can’t get over how soft and shiny my hair is looking and the increased curl definition I see, particularly when I do use this as a leave in. It’s incredibly moisturizing yet I still feel it does not weigh my hair down. How that works? I don’t know, but I like that it does. I concentrate this especially on my overdue-for-a-trim ends and it makes them look a wee less frazzled. I think this is going to make a great leave in especially as the weather starts getting cooler and the air begins to get dry.
SheaMoisture Community Commerce Hydration Intensive Hair Masque
What They Say: SheaMoisture’s Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Hair Masque intensely conditions while infusing hair with a powerful dose of moisture and nutrients. Certified organic Shea Butter, Honey, Mafura and Baobab Oils are blended with antioxidant-rich African Rock Fig to restore and lock in moisture while deeply conditioning. Smoothes and fortifies follicles for stronger, healthier frizz-free hair.
What I Say: I feel a bit repetitive but like the rest of the line, this masque left my hair feeling so very soft and made it more manageable. I finger detangled without a comb. I found this masque to be concentrated- a little went a long way and my thirsty blonde locks drank it right up. I used this mask a few times- with or without heat and it performed wonderfully both ways. Another SheaMoisture masque happily added to my deep treatment rotation.
Final thoughts
After all that being said and done I have one complaint about this line. I don’t like the fact that I heard it’s limited edition!? What!?!?! No. No. No. No. No. No. No. Please, dear wonderful folks at SheaMoisture, reconsider should that be true. Curly girls NEED this line, especially ones like me with uber dry hair and especially as we will be bracing ourselves for the super brutal, cold, leave-my-hair-brittle-and-limp Winter that is right around the corner.
