Veteran stylist Anna Craig of Trashy Root Salon & Spa offers a recap of the award show and a rundown of the hair:
The 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were handed out Sunday night in Los Angeles. As one of the industry’s premiere events, it offered the usual glitz and glam.
Big, long, elegant dresses, tasteful jewelry, and toned-down hair were the theme of the show. Curls were definitely not in force at tonight’s show; the big trend was blown out, slicked back and straight ponytails.
Angie Harmon, from Rizzoli and Isles, not only had on one ungodly dress but, again, she had a slicked-back ponytail. She had probably the worst look of the night. What happened to her amazing wavy hair?
The big winner of the night, Melissa Leo, star of “The Fighter,” styled her hair with a sexy, loose curly updo. She kept true to her natural curls by diffusing her curls then loosely pinning them back, leaving a few out in the front to frame the face.
Oh, Julianna Margulies, from “The Good Wife,” you disappoint me so. Where have your curls gone lately? She had her hair blown-out straight and then slicked down in a ponytail; this was by far my least favorite look for one of the best curlies out there.
Kyra Sedgwick, from The Closer, had some curlies going on last night. Her hair looked sophisticated and fun at the same time. Her curly hair was diffused and lightly sun kissed with blond highlights.
With baby bumps everywhere this season, Jane Krakowski, from 30 Rock, was definitely rocking her bump with her controlled curls. Jane’s curly q’s were put into waves tonight to make her one hot mama. Her hair was blown out, but her volume was kept and then looser curls were styled going away from her face to create her sexy wave.
Mila Kunis, of Black Swan, kept her wavy hair down and wavy, with just a hint of caramel color popping with balayaged highlights. Mila’s simple style can be recreated by taking a 2” barrel iron and lightly wrapping your hair around it to create her wavy look.
Where do I even start with Helena Bonham Carter, of “The King’s Speech.” She had a crazy updo that should have stayed in the ’90s where it originated. This too-curly updo with side swung curls was perfect for her quirky personality, but too over the top for anyone else.
Christina Hendricks, from “Mad Men,” likes to represent for the curly girl. Her hair was blown out to sophistication and had such a pin-up vibe, then curled with a 1” iron to set it in place for that old-fashioned starlet look.
