Wash-and-go’s are a quick, low maintenance style, but when you’re itching for defined curls, shingling might not match the ‘rub and go’ image you had in mind. Wash-and-go can also be tedious, so most naturals opt for stretched styles which are low maintenance, last longer, provide length and allow you to decrease the potential of single strand knots. But what do you do when that braid out is approaching the four and five day hair and your schedule doesn’t permit time for a wash day? Pin-and-go!
The pin-and-go can be achieved with any stretched style, but an old flat-braid out or flat-twist out is preferable. The texture adds elegance to the look.
1. Find 8-12 bobby pins
Bobby pins are the only tools you will need for this style. If you want to accent the style a little more, a headband or flower is a nice addition.
2. Start in the front
Starting in the front of your hair allows you to properly gage the desired size for your pleasantly puffed sections and the amount needed for height that you want.
3. Pull and pin
After applying moisturizer to your hair, grab sections of the braid-out in the front, pin them back and pin the back up toward the crown of your head in any fashion you like. To assure strands are secure, you should twist the ends and then roll downward with your finger as though it were a roller.
4. Go!
I always get compliments on campus about how I achieve this style. At times I even take a section down to show just how easy it is.
The maintenance is simple. Just put on a satin scarf before you go to sleep and that’s it! If your hair needs an extra touch of moisture, apply your favorite moisturizer gently to assure you do not disturb the curl pattern and cause frizz. This can cause the hair to be mistaken for a lumpy fro. Just pat a little here and there and you should be good. Then re-roll, go to bed and you will be good to go in the morning!
