Black History Month is upon us and it’s time to celebrate our journey and the pioneers who helped us get to where we are today. There are many black-owned brands in the beauty and hair industries that are creating a space for multicultural consumers. Here are some of my favorite black-owned hair care brands.
Mielle Organics
Mielle has been on the beauty scene since 2014. Founded by Monique Rodriguez, Mielle has taken the beauty industry by storm in a short amount of time. Mielle Organics offers all natural ingredients in their products. Mielle is known for their results-driven products and also for their excellent customer service. My favorites products include the Babassu Oil Mint Deep Conditioner and the Mint Almond oil.
CURLS
CURLS has been on the beauty scene since 2002, founded by Mahisha Dellinger. CURLS is a leader in the natural hair care and beauty space. CURLS continues to develop amazing products with their unique formulation of certified organic ingredients. CURLS continues to increase awareness among multi-ethnic consumers around the world. My favorite products include the Blueberry Bliss Twist-N- Shout Cream and the Blueberry Bliss Reparative Leave-in Conditioner.
EDEN BodyWorks
EDEN BodyWorks is one of my all time favorite Black-owned beauty brands. EDEN BodyWorks was founded by Jasmine Lawrence when she was 11 years old. As a child, Jasmine faced many beauty challenges and was unable to find natural products for her hair, so she created her own. My favorite products are the Coconut Shea Leave-in conditioner, and the Coconut Shea Curl Defining Creme.
TGIN
TGIN- Thank God It’s Natural was founded by Chris-Tia Donaldson. Thank God It’s Natural is a line of natural products for hair and skin, and are available nationwide in many big brand stores. I have been a fan of TGIN since the beginning and the owner is from my hometown of Chicago, IL. Chris-Tia created TGIN because she felt that there were very few products in the hair industry that were designed for women with kinky, curly and wavy textures. My favorite products are the Honey Miracle Hair Mask and the Twist and Define Creme.
Jane Carter Solution
I have been using Jane Carter since the very beginning of my natural hair journey. Jane Carter is definitely not new to the beauty industry. Jane Carter has been a hairstylist since 1982 and began making products in 1992. Jane Carter Solution was founded due to an allergic reaction that was caused by prolonged exposure to chemicals found in traditional hair care products. My favorite products are the Nourish and Shine and the Revitalizing Leave- In Conditioner.
