Have you noticed the men in your life are sprouting more facial hair than usual lately?
Have you noticed the men in your life are sprouting more facial hair than usual lately? No Shave November or Movember may be the reason behind it. If you are unfamiliar with it, these are charities set up to bring awareness to several issues causing men to die way too soon.
Per the official site, No Shave November is a unique way to grow cancer awareness.
It says that “The goal of No-Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free. Donate the money you typically spend on shaving and grooming to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle.” You can sign up to participate at no-shave.org and even create your own personal fundraising page to raise money for the cause. To date, the organization has raised over $2 million dollars.
The Movember Foundation was also set up to “help men live happier, healthier, longer lives through investing in three key areas: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.” Since their start in 2003, they’ve raised $710 million and helped fund 1,200 breakthrough men’s health programs in 21 countries. The foundation encourages men to grow mustaches for the month of November to spark conversation and bring awareness to the issue. The goal is to have men and women commit to get active–or move–throughout the month.
If you are a male growing a beard for No Shave November, you definitely want to keep your new facial hair in tip top shape.
The hair and skin on the face and beard is different from the hair and skin on the head, so it is important to use proper products and treat them as so. If you use hair care products designed for the hair from your scalp on your beard, your beard is not reaching its full potential. According to Beardbrand, “facial hair will grow in thicker and flatter than head hair. This means beards are coarser and curlier than the head hair counterparts.”
Black Label Beard says the difference between caring for beards and not caring is that “Neglected beards will feel itchy, scratchy, dry, and look wiry. Well-kept beards will look clean, straight, and will grow from being well moisturized and healthy.”
SheaMoisture, which has insanely popular products for all hair types, just released a new line in the Men’s Grooming category to help your beard be the best it can be. The Three Butters Beard Softener and Skin Protector contains sandalwood, coconut and jojoba oils to soften the beard and help sooth any irritation and inflammation on the skin. BeardBrand also has various products to care for your beard, with oils to soften and waxes to style, as well as beard washes and even shave soaps.
