The Global Premiere of Disney’s live-action film Little Mermaid is giving us all of the mermaidcore inspiration. Tinisha “Sparkle” Meeks once again worked magic with Halle Bailey’s locs, hairstylist Davontae’ Washington styled Chloe Bailey, and Hairstylist Alexander Armand worked with Marsai Marti. Check out how they achieved these carpet-ready hairstyles at the Little Mermaid Premiere.
Halle Bailey’s Ariel red locs
Tinisha “Sparkle” Meeks, @sparkyourhair, had everyone wondering “how did she do that?!” with Halle Bailey’s recent Met Gala hairstyle, and now we have a new awe-inspiring look to zoom in on. Bailey’s hip-length locs in Ariel’s auburn red color end in loose curls. The hairstyle was the perfect complement to her mermaidcore dress by Valdrin Sahiti.
“I don’t look at locs like it’s something different than any texture of hair,” Meeks has told PopSugar. “I love straight textures, I love curly textures, I love locs. To me, it’s all the same.” She continues to innovate new styles and sculptural looks with locs. “No matter what the texture is, I feel like you can manipulate it to look like whatever another style is. I enjoy doing that with locs,” Meeks said.
Chloe Bailey’s Va Va Volume
Chloe Bailey brought the volume to The Little Mermaid Premiere! To achieve this look, Davonte crocheted Chloe’s locs for a flat foundation, prepping the skin with rubbing alcohol to remove all residue and makeup and using the KISS Colors & Care Lace Bond Adhesive Spray – Extreme Hold for a seamless installment. Its extreme hold formula is long-lasting and fast drying to keep your hair and wigs in place until your next wash.
Next, he used a small amount of the award-winning Edge Fixer Glued in Watermelon to tame her baby hairs for an air/soft look. To finish the look Devontae used the Edge Fixer Wax Stick in Sweet Peach to smooth the edge back and combed over with a hot comb.
Marsai Marti’s Half Up Bohemian Braids
“Tonight’s red carpet look for Marsai was inspired by mermaid hair, but we wanted to elevate it to a chic, effortless, glamor look”, explained Alexander Armand.
To help achieve Marsai’s braided half up/half down hairstyle at the Little Mermaid Premiere, Alexander used the KISS Colors & Care Foaming Mousse to add shine to the bohemian braids. Next, he used the award-winning Edge Fixer Glued Max Hold to achieve a polished hair line, with perfectly placed baby hairs. As a final step, Alexander used the Maximum Hold 2-in-1 Super Stay to hold everything in place.
