Curly to Straight Challenge
Lexi’s Curls: Before
I straighten my hair from time to time to (a”> check out the length (b”> to see how my ends are holding up and (c”> just to rock something different.
When I first went natural, I would get my hair religiously straightened every 2 weeks. I would wear it straight for about 9 days and then I would rock it curly the rest of that 2nd week. It’s been a long time since those days. Now I straighten my hair once every 3 or 4 months.
Straightening hair can be a task, I’m not gonna lie. Especially when you have thick hair like mine. You have to go from this to sleek hair.
The Products
It’s starting to be consistently warm in Atlanta (yay!”> and it’s about the time that I am really getting the itch to do something different with my hair…and I’m thinking straight! I straighten my hair from time to time to (a”> check out the length (b”> to see how my ends are holding up and (c”> just to rock something different.
I finally tried out the newest products added to the Motions line – Straight Finish (Motions® Hair Care can be purchased at Target, Walmart and www.drugstore.com“>. This trio includes 3 products: Straight Finish Cleanser, the Straight Finish Leave-In Conditioner & the Straight Finish Sealer.
I’m pretty good at blowing and straightening my hair. Products can make it easier or harder. Motions…made my life easier.
The Blowout
I started with an old twist out so of course my hair was tangled. I used the Cleanser which to me is similar to a co-wash. While it cleansed, it was definitely moisturizing. I combed through with my fingers first and then used my trusty paddle brush to thoroughly get all the tangles out and to clump the curls. I did that process twice.
When I got out the shower, I put enough of the Leave In Conditioner to coat my hair and combed it through with a paddle brush- (hair still wet”>. This product wasn’t heavy at all. In fact, I thought I put too much on, but it really wasn’t. You are only supposed to use a small amount though. To me , the leave in is like a blow dry cream. It made it easier to blow out my hair using a blow dryer with a nozzle attachment and a paddle brush. I did it in about 6 sections.
Curly to Straight
Lastly, it was time for the straightening process! My least favorite part lol. I used the Sealer to put on my hair in small sections and I straightened section by section. I did it in sections because I wanted to make sure that the product was from root to tip on ALL of my hair. I straightened in very small sections using 410 degrees. I know it’s a lot , but it works on my hair. I only pass the iron through ONCE and don’t have to go back over it.
Voila! Straight, frizz free hair!
(Took me only 2 hours from wash to completely straight!”>The Results
It lasted all week (even after sweating in the gym”>. Check me out before the Rihanna concert (this is Day 6 by the way”>.
The Bounce Back
Just as expected, after washing my straight hair over a week later, my curls and coils bounced back! I had high expectations and Motions didn’t let me down. No heat damage at all and back to my beautiful curls.
Thank you to Lexi for sharing her challenge with us, and if you try out the Motions line we’d love to know how your curls liked it in the product reviews section!
