Mielle Organics, a hair care and beauty brand that places an emphasis on using all natural and organic ingredients, has been gaining a huge amount of traction in the natural hair community. So it’s no surprise that one of its products landed a NaturallyCurly Best of the Best – Leaders in Curl Award. If you haven’t heard, the NaturallyCurly team members and community voted to determine the best hair products of every category and for all hair types for 2019. Check it out if you haven’t already.
The product fresh out of the box.
The Mielle Organics Avocado Moisturizing Hair Milk won the award in the “Moisturizer” product category for all hair types, including coily hair. It’s advertised as a hydrating product for dry, thirsty, hair and based on the rave reviews I knew I had to see what the hype was about. Plus, like all Mielle Organics products, it’s free of any harmful chemicals or preservatives while boasting a full list of organic ingredients and botanicals. This list includes aloe vera, avocado oil, and jojoba seed oil, all of which are great hydrators and strengthen the hair.
My ultimate goal was a twist-out, so my only requirements for this moisturizer was that it aided in the detangling process and that it left my hair feeling soft for a bouncy, voluminous style.
The Process and First Impressions:
The entire process was pretty simple. I started out on damp hair, twisting small sections of hair and applying the hair milk evenly while detangling, making sure to coat the strands. Next I followed up with Murray’s Australian Beeswax and Jamaican black castor oil to seal the ends.
While applying the product I immediately noticed two things. The first was that, despite it being a thin-feeling product (compared to my usual butters and creams”>, it provided a lot of “slip” and made it easier for me to remove tangles and run my fingers through my hair. The next thing I noticed was the definition! Because I tend to stick to stretched styles I don’t usually worry about flawless definition–but my curls and coils were more defined than I’ve seen in a while. It also has a very light and pleasant scent, nothing overpowering.
To be honest, I usually steer clear any type of hair “milk” or “spray,” as a type 4 natural. Any product that sounds like it will be light usually means it will just sit on top of my hair rather than actually penetrate the hair strands. But I was pleasantly surprised by this and more than a little shook– just this product alone was enough to moisturize my hair. I usually go in with maybe two or three moisturizing products in my routine, and this time I used this product alone.
Results and Final Thoughts:
After six years of being natural, I may have just found a new holy grail product. Mielle Organics’ Avocado Moisturizing Hair Milk stays true to its’ promise to provide hydration and moisture to dry hair and is easily one of the best all-around products that I have tried so far this year. This Best of the Best Award is well-deserved. My only complaint is that I wish I had more of it.
