At Naturally Curly we completely understand that no matter if you’re a beginning transitioner or even a hair care hobbyist, it’s tough to build the perfect curly hair care regimen that works perfectly for you! From oil-based no-poo to strand silkening co-wash, it’s a little nightmarish navigating the beauty aisles for products that make sense for your curl pattern and texture. That’s why we reached out to a few trusted beauty aficionados at Target to give you a solid understanding of the curly hair products they carry that will enhance your natural beauty. We think you’re going to love trying them!
To you with the inside scoop on these products, all available at your local Target, we’ve asked curly influencer Yajaira De La Espada, also known as Curl Catalyst, which products will work best for a curly hair care regimen. Here are her recommended products and uses:
No. 1 – Clean Up Your Act with a Sulfate-Free Shampoo
The ORS Black Olive Oil Repair 7TM Sulfate Free Shampoo is used as a shampoo and conditioner. It’s designed to give your curls copious amounts of moisture via its creamy to rich lather. “When you put a lot of products in your hair, like I do, you definitely need something that’s going to take the products out,” says Espada, “That build up is not your friend. This is going to help you with that build up.” Great for all hair types, this is the kind of shampoo every curly can use in her regimen.
No. 2 – Don’t Strip Your Strands! Use a Co-Wash
Co-wash your curls to gently cleanse your curls if you’re not going to using a shampoo on your wash day. A staple in the curly community comes in the form of the Creme of Nature Argan Pure-Licious Co-Wash. This lightweight, color-safe formula is made with Argan Oil and Argan Butter which promises “no frizz, no shrinkage, and no dryness” – a curly girl’s dream!
No. 3 – Get to the Root of the Matter with a Conditioner
“After I co-wash, I tend to use a deep conditioner,” Espada says, “The deep conditioner I got today is the Alikay Naturals Honey and Sage Deep Conditioner. It has honey in it!” Yes, honey – it does! The honey offers thirsty curls and dry, damaged hair relief while sage and babassu enriches hair follicles. Curl Catylyst uses this treatment once every two weeks for best results. If you don’t mind smell like a goddess all day long, you’re going to absolutely love this deep conditioner.
No. 4 – Get Ready to Slay with Leave-In for Curls
We all want gorgeous curls everyday of the week without having to do a wash-and-go Monday to Sunday. “The next step you can use is a leave-in conditioner,” says Espada, “I’m trying to get into the habit of making this (touches soft, luxuriously moisturized curls”> last all week instead of two days like it usually lasts.” That’s why the Jane Carter Solution Slumber Party Creamy Leave-In is such a curl-saver! You can use it during the day to refresh curls, or at night to replenish hair overnight with nourishment. Oh, it’s cruelty free and smells divine!
No. 5 – Slather On the Cream
Espada picked a bottle of Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper Styling Cream and reaped immediate benefits. “I like use creams to put that curl definition in my hair,” she explains, “and also to start shaping my hair. I’m making it into a heart-shape. I’m deconstructing it, putting it into an afro or defining it to do a super defined twist out!” This speaks volumes to the versatility that this styling cream offers curls! If you’re in a humid climate or your curls are prone to product build-up, you’re definitely going to need this cream in your life.
So what do you think? Are you feeling excited to get products specifically designed to help your curls thrive?
