The Review

Mixing + Application

Following the directions on the packaging, I melted the bar using a double boiler — and it took forever! Literally, 30 minutes passed before I was able to mix in my conditioner of choice. I slathered the mixture on my dirty, dry hair generously. I left it on for 6+ hours using a plastic cap and my therapy wrap.

Article continues after video.

Rinsing

Like any other henna product, tons of rinsing was involved. BUT! Like no other henna, my hair felt sooooo soft. Usually, henna treatments make my hair feel like straw and I need tons of co-wash conditioner, to not only to rinse the grit, but to assist in making it manageable just enough to add a deep conditioner. In this instance, my hair was soft enough to proceed with a deep conditioner after rinsing with water only.

I followed with a nourishing honey conditioner for 1 hour and rinsed. Yooo! If I didn’t know any better, I would have attempted a wash and go! And y’all know I NEVER wash and go ANYWHERE! But that is just a testament to how soft, yet clumpy my kinks and curls were. Ah-mazing!

Testing my luck, I let my hair air dry in braids with no product. Once my hair dried, it was still super soft! I stretched with a brief shot of heat and it became even softer — still no product was added. My cuticles were laid and the shine was evident.

Review Confessions

I’ve never used a pre-made henna gloss before, but from my understanding it is supposed to be something that is heavy on conditioning agents (i.e. shea & cocoa butter”> with a little henna to boost. But I have created henna mixes which had a ton of conditioner and slightly less henna, yet I’ve never garnered these results.

Since I received this as a press sample, I didn’t realize it was 12 bucks! Now that I’m aware, when I purchase this product I will cut the bar in half and see what kind of milage I can get after mixing it in with my conditioner. Hopefully my hair will be just as soft and shiny.

If you are in the market to try henna, start here! But I will admit my hair is partial to any product which has cocoa butter in a high concentration.

Anyone else tried it?!
