The 2012 Golden Globes were popping with curlies and everyone looked amazing! Ever notice how at some award shows everyone pay the big bucks for the insane dress and makeup and hair and they just look ridiculous? It is those times that we all truly realize that no amount of money can buy fashion sense. But the Golden Globes, unlike many MTV award shows, were what we like to call “fancy.” Curls abounded, and now we want to know how to get the looks!
“This year, stylists allowed natural waves to surface and coaxed hair to fall haphazardly to give the look a romantic vibe.” says curl style specialist Ouidad. “Loose curls framed faces including Reese Witherspoon, Salma Hayek and Madonna, to illuminate features and highlight their beautiful bone structure.”
Golden Curls, Kinks and Waves
Gerard Butler was as sexy as ever with his longer type 2B locks tonight as a presenter. Use a curl enhancing gel to scrunch and tossle the curls to give the look of an imperfect curl.
Elle McPherson looked magnificent with her relaxed type 2B beach waves. Apply a curling cream to damp hair and twist the hair when scrunching to accentuate the beachy wave look.
Laura Dern, Best Actress in a TV Series Comedy or Musical, sparkled with all her glitz and donned some Curly Qs. Her perfect type 2C curls were created by applying a hard hold curling gel while sopping wet, creating a deep side part, and then smoothing the bangs over for a swoop bang.
Julianne Moore smoldered with elegance with her classic waves. These type 2A waves were smoothed down with a frizz-free smoothing cream and lightly brushed over with a Denman brush covered in smoothing oil.
Emily Watson, Nominee Actress in a Mini Series or TV Movie, kept her type 2C curls simple and easy. Scrunch in a sculpting gel into wet hair and, when completely dry, pull into a loose ponytail, then lightly tease and separate the curls to create fullness and volume.
Ludovic Bource, Original Score Motion Picture, was debonair with his type 3A curls. His tight curls were kept in control with a frizz-free foam.
Madonna, Original Song in a Motion Picture, was beachy and natural so not to distract from her amazing gown. A curl enhancing cream cocktailed with a volumizing foam will tame her type 2C waves for the evening. According to Celebrity Stylist Andy LeCompte, “Madonna wanted easy, natural texture hair.”
“To start, I rough dried her hair manipulating and emphasizing her natural texture,” says LeCompte. “Next I applied a mist of Wella’s Thermal Image Heat Protection Spray to protect the hair from thermal heat as well as give the hair a slight bit of texture. I spray this before I use my FHI platform 1-inch flat iron to make soft S formations, giving the hair a natural wave texture. Then finish with a mist of Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray.”
Debra Messing was stunning with her sophisticated chignon. With day old type 3A hair, spray upside down with a spray gel to increase volume, finger the hair away from the face with a texture paste, then pin into a knot like bun.
Seth Rogan brought the laughs tonight with his humor and charm, and keeping his type 2C curls soft with a smoothing cream.
