This summer has been filled with endless adventures, exploring new places and trying fun hairstyles. One of my most memorable experiences was visiting Chicago to attend Lollapalooza, one of the biggest music festivals in the world that features the top musical styles ranging from EDM to hip-hop.
Bed Head by TIGI hosted an epic hotel party at the Bed Head Hotel — an exclusive pop-up party for festival goers to sip on refreshing cocktails, get glam and enjoy good vibes by guest DJs. The two-day activation brought out artists and beauty influencers including Sabrina Claudio, Brittany Sky, and Madison Beer. Not to mention some of the best female DJs were spinning the hottest tunes, including Caroline D’Amore and Dani Thorne.
Every music festival has its own personality. Lollapalooza is the perfect blend of boho meets 90s’ street style. Festival style is always a hot topic and one hairstyle that was everywhere were space buns. You could spot people wearing them sleek, curly, braided — and sometimes doused with glitter at the roots. Some pulled up all their hair up into the twists, while others let half of it flow freely.
Being that this was my first time at Lollapalooza, it was only right I joined in on the festival fun. Kimberly Michelle, TIGI stylist and educator, styled my hair using Screw It, a curl hydrating jelly oil that adds moisture, and Get Twisted, the anti-frizz hairspray that fights humidity to combat frizz for up to 72 hours. Being that space buns are a classic festival style, I chose to go with that style and added some flair by incorporating a braid down the center and also some intricate accessories.
Kimberly Michelle truly made my Sporty Spice dreams come true. She even spilled the tea on pro tips to preserve my style while at the festival and the top curly girl tip to avoid dry hair. Check out our candid conversation below and let me know what you think of my festival style.
What I love most about festivals is that you can meet people from all over the globe who connect about music, art, and fashion. I had the opportunity to meet so many curlfriends and women conquering the music industry, such as Caroline D’Amore. She performed one of my favorite DJ sets, and she rocked a fierce festival hairstyle that stole the show. Watch our interview below along with other curly girls sharing their top tips and what their natural hair represents.
The TIGI stylists offered attendees complimentary hairstyles specializing in boho braids, twisted topknots, and bold textures. It’s no secret that texture is at the forefront of the beauty industry and will only continue to lead the way as more women embrace their natural texture.
The TIGI team did an amazing job styling attendees’ hair and I was curious to know their inspiration for these creative hairstyles. Each unique hairstyle was created with some of Bed Head’s top-selling stylers. A festival essential? Oh Bee Hive — a dry shampoo that adds texture and volume, but also absorbs excess oils and refreshes hair after dancing all day and night at the festival. I caught up with a few TIGI stylists to learn how to create each style. Hear more from the stylists and how to recreate these looks below.
Thank you, TIGI, for inviting me to hang out at the Bed Head Hotel and Lollapalooza for an unforgettable experience.
