Moisture and natural hair sometimes seem like water and oil—it’s hard to keep them together. Luckily, there are products out there that make moisturizing natural hair a lot easier for us all. Depending on your hair needs, these products might be what you need.

DIY Whipped Shea Butter
Yes, you can purchase products with shea butter, but there’s nothing like the real thing—especially raw, unrefined shea butter. What’s great about raw shea butter is that you can make your own whipped shea butter and mix oils in it. It’s also fantastic sealer in it’s raw state. For centuries this thick, creamy butter has been used to help women retain length and preventing damaged from dryness, which can lead to breakage.
How to use it:
Simply heat raw shea butter in the microwave or on the stove, but don’t melt it completely as you don’t want to destroy the nutrient content. Next, whip it up with a hand mixer until creamy, add any other oil of your choice (less than the shea butter”>, and then mix vitamin E in at the end. Measurements don’t have to be exact but you should only need to use a drop or two of vitamin E oil; this helps to prolong the shelf life. Store your mixture in a cool dark place and use as desired.
Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk Styling Pudding
I was thrilled to discover this product on NaturallyCurly.com. Why? Because there’s no protein in it! On my quest for keeping my wash and go’s moisturized I realized that I needed a non-greasy, protein free thick cream. It almost seemed impossible to find, but I’m glad that I did. This product has given me more moisture than any other product I have ever tried on it’s own. Not only that, the shine is out of this world. I like to use this on top on my leave-in conditioner when I do a wash and go. It’s paraben, petroleum, and mineral oil free. It also doesn’t contain any artificial coloring.
Tip:
Use it on damp hair, not soaking wet, otherwise it gets too watery and looses its effectiveness. When used on damp hair, it defines, moisturizes and adds shine like nothing I’ve ever seen.
SheaMoisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie
Even though I like to avoid protein, this product is very moisturizing, on the occasional times that I do use it. For those that have thick curly hair and don’t mind protein, this is great for imparting moisture into your hair. I was recently at a four-day seminar and this product was able to maintain my moisture while I was there.
SheaMoisture Curling Gel Soufflé
This product is really great for moisturizing. It contains agave nectar and flax seed oil and it’s sulfate and paraben free. As you’ve probably already heard, this product is very sticky so it’s best used sparingly over SheaMoisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie or a hair butter of your choice.
