Having dry curly wavy hair, not washing every day makes the biggest difference in the world. At this point, my day 2 and day 3 hair actually look even better than day 1! But going to sleep at night is risky- I toss and turn and I think I fight epic battles in my dreams, because I used to wake up with hair that would give Medusa a run for her money. Not anymore, though! This is how I prep my hair at night time.
Nighttime Hair Routine
Pineapple
If my hair is looking and feeling particularly dry I will spray it, focusing on the ends with a moisturizing spray. My favorites to use are Devacurl Set It Free or the SheaMoisure Yucca & Baobob Thickening Mist. I let this sit 5-10 minutes before the next steps.
I gather all my hair into a super high Pebbles Flintstone like ponytail, otherwise known as a pineapple. I use a thick 80s like scrunchie to gently hold the hair in place.

Tuck the Ends
I gently wrap the hair around itself and tuck the ends inside the scrunchie.
Cover Up
Now I place a satin bonnet on my head. I got mine at Walgreen’s. For added security I also sleep with a satin pillowcase. There have been nights where the bonnet does come off my hair mid sleep somehow.
Double Up
I find sleeping with a satin bonnet, on a satin pillowcase (or both”> makes a difference with the amount of frizz I wake up to. It also helps prevents facial wrinkles.
Let it All Out
The next morning, I let my hair down and shake it out a bit. I usually use a refresher spray (Jessicurl Awe Inspiraling Spray is my current favorite”> and my Q-Redew to help make any waves that might have got a bit too stretched out reform. If needed, I’ll follow up with a silicone free serum for some extra shine.
