Inspired by a one-of-a-kind bald Barbie doll created for a four-year-old girl who had suffered chemotherapy hair loss, a new Facebook group has emerged showcasing more than 40,000 “likes” for “Beautiful and Bald Barbie! Let’s see if we can get it made.”
Genesis Reyes, the child for whom the original bald Barbie doll was created, reportedly told her parents that she did not feel like a princess without her hair. A friend of the family asked a close friend who happened to be the CEO of Mattel to create a one-of-a-kind doll for Genesis.

Supporters of the campaign say that the Barbie doll would raise awareness for childhood cancer and help children cope with chemo hair loss of their own or the cancer of a family member.Jane Bingham, one of the creators of the Facebook group, told MailOnline: “When I read the article about Mattel making a one of a kind bald Barbie for Genesis, I though how wonderful that would be, with so many other children dealing with hair-loss from chemo, alopecia or trichotillomania. I thought we could raise awareness for these conditions. Raise awareness that children get cancer too. It would be a win all around.”
So ladies, help the group out and let’s get to keeping up our mantra and spreading it to all girls everywhere: You are not your hair!
