We called upon Halli Bivona at the John Barrett Salon at Bergdorf Goodman to show us how to keep our hair healthy and on-trend this summer with easy ‘dos that don’t call for styling tools.
5 No Heat Hairstyles
Textured Ponytail
For this look, it’s best to use your fingers (instead of a brush”> to rake your hair back. This will make hair seem artfully undone, instead of messy.
“I generally like my textured ponies to be mid to high in height,” says Bivona. “Lightly tease at the base and middle of ponytail to add a bit of volume and scrunch with a texture spray. I love to use Shu Uemura Liquid Fabric because it sprays the perfect amount every time.”
Beach Waves
Sophisticated Chignon
Though we love a messy topknot, we’re thinking this summer it’s time to keep it classy.
“To make this look more modern, I like to slick hair back into a mid-height ponytail. Twist the ponytail and then wrap hair around the base. Finish the look by securing the chignon with bobby pins and you’re good to go.”
Side Fishtail Braid
Braids are always timeless, and a great way to avoid using hot tools. To make a side fishtail braid, bring hair over one shoulder and split it into two sections. Then, take a small subsection from the outside of the two sections and crisscross the small pieces. Continue to the end and tie off with an elastic.
“To give it a romantic feel I like to pull on the braid and rough it up between my hands,” suggests Bivona.
Bouncy “Faux” Blow
Get retro-glam without a blowdryer! Start by using large foam or plastic rollers, take one inch sections of damp hair and place the roller at the end of your hair. Roll down to your scalp and secure with a bobby pin. Start at the top and roll sections away from your face and under. Once you’re done, wrap your hair in a silk or satin scarf to set. After a night of beauty sleep, remove rollers and voila!
