After over a decade of research, world famous drugstore brand, Pantene, just reformulated most of their shampoos.
The brand’s reformulation includes a proprietary blend of pro vitamins, antioxidants, and tiny lipids infused into the shampoo formulas and designed to improve smoothness, softness, and add shine to the hair without weighing it down.
Many shampoos strip away essential hair moisture and fat, along with the dirt and oil they remove while cleansing. Pantene set out to fix this problem with a focus on a groundbreaking, unique ingredient reformulation.
“The lipid-based ingredient is the standout here—I’ve never seen it in hair care before,” says cosmetic chemist Ron Robinson. “Chemically, it should offer the best of both worlds—cleansing well while keeping hair’s moisture.”
The lipids slip under the hair cuticle as you rinse to replace essential fatty acids that are usually lost to suds. Allure’s testers, who had the chance to try the newly reformulated shampoos, reported that “even our most highlighted testers noticed that their hair felt softer and less snarled (before conditioner”> after a single wash.”
The formula does still contain sodium laureth sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate and dimethicone, which will rule it out for sulfate-free and silicone-free curly customers, but we know there are plenty of curlies who use these ingredients without issue or use them sparingly.
