Love It or Leave It: the Pixelated Hair Color Trend

If you always wanted to look like a videogame character IRL (in real life”>, you may want to try the latest trend in hair color, known as “xpresionpixel” or pixelated hair color.

A salon called X-Presion in Spain has been pixelating its clients since last spring, and Revlon Professional is featuring the look in a campaign for its Neon collection. The pixelated look involves coloring small, square chunks of hair in a range of similar colors to create a patterned effect. The goal is to mimic pixels on a computer or television screen. The resulting look can range from a bright statement to a more subtle accent. There are so many options for coloring the “pixels” in your hair such as going neon, or doing a natural color like , brown or red.

The largest cause for concern with this trend may be the awkward grow out phase. Of course, you can dye over the pixelated sections but that still does not guarantee even hair color and will most likely result in serious damage to that section of your hair. Take a quick scroll through the xpresioncreativos hashtag on Instagram and will notice a trend – so far this trend has only been carried out on straight hair. So naturally, I am curious to see pixels on curls and waves.
