Summer Crown Braid Tutorial with Bianca Alexa
By Bianca Alexa · Updated July 17, 2014

Braids are always in style, they’re a fast and easy way to create stylish up dos in minutes. The crown braid hairstyle is one of my favorites. It’s a hairstyle that looks good on any texture, curly, straight or transitioning hair. It’s perfect for these hot summer days, when you want to keep your hair out of your face or even deep condition on the go. Here is a step by step on how to achieve this look.

Step 1: Moisturize your hair

This first step is essential to keep your tresses moisturized. Dampen your hair with some water and apply your favorite leave in product. If you prefer a tighter hold on your braids then feel free to use some gel as well.

Step 2: Part your Hair

Make a side parting at the front of your hair once you’ve done this; divide the rest of your hair straight down the middle all the way to the nape of your neck.

Step 3: Braid

Start where you made your side parting and braid all the way down to your ends. Make sure to braid as close to your edges as possible as this will give the crown effect that we’re going for.

Repeat this same step on the other side of your head.

Step 5: Secure with Pins

To create the first half of your crown, hold the ends of your right braid and cross it towards the back of your head until it reaches your left ear (or close to it, if your hair is shorter”>. Use bobby pins to secure your braid.

Repeat this step with the remaining braid, taking the ends and crossing it towards the back of your head until it reaches your right ear.
