SheaMoisure’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil Completely Restored and Revitalized My Hair

I used to live by the myth that women with short hair don’t have to deep condition it. As a natural girl, I reserved my deep-conditioning Sundays for hair that could be thrown in a bun. Over the last couple of months, I noticed my hair become drier and drier. I’d wash, oil, and apply hair foam to manipulate my curls. Despite my efforts, my hair would be completely dry and hard to maintain. You’d think I’d know better about deep conditioning since I am a contributor to NaturallyCurly. It wasn’t until my last articles about daily conditioners that I realized I needed to restore moisture into my hair. The myth that I lived by left my ends feeling dry and brittle but that was about to change.

The thing about finding the right hair products is that it becomes a trial and error. You buy a product, give it a try, and then wait to see if it works for you. If it does, great! If it doesn’t, it’s back to the drawing board. In my quest for new products that’ll rehydrate my hair, I came across SheaMoisture’s Jamaican Black Caster Oil Collection. I decided to sample the Strengthen & Restore Treatment Masque, Leave-in Conditioner and Conditioning Design Foam.

I washed my hair with SheaMoisture’s Green Coconut and Activated Charcoal Purifying Shampoo and Conditioner. After rinsing, I worked the restore treatment masque in from my roots to my ends. I let it sit for approximately 20 minutes and then rinsed my hair. I immediately felt a difference in the texture of my curls. They were softer, more defined, and more lively.

I added a small amount of the leave-in conditioner and a few pumps of the conditioning design foam. Adding two types of conditioners was a new concept for me because both products have different consistencies, I wasn’t sure if I should use one or the other. I had been used to using a foam mousse for so long that I didn’t know how my hair would react without it. I was aware that I needed to restore as much moisture as possible so I added the leave-in to my regimen to maximize retention.

After applying, I set my hair with wave rods and let it air dry. Upon removing the rods, I noticed a huge difference in my hair. It was softer, my ends weren’t frizzy, and my curls were defined. In the past, I washed my every two to three days because my ends would become frizzy and unmanageable. Although I knew washing it too often was counterproductive, it was the only solution to maintaining my curls. After using the Jamaican Black Castor Oil products, I was able to manage my hair for a week!

Overall, I’m obsessed with the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore collection. It definitely strengthened and restored each strand on my head. I’m happy that I found something that works for my hair. As a 3C and 4A curly girl, I don’t always have the best luck in finding products that work for me. Although I contributed to the damage caused to my hair by not deep conditioning, I was happy to restore it with these amazing products.
